Are Tool Ideas exhausted? A Case of Outbid.lol

In this times, where everyone can vibecode any tool they want in a matter of minutes with just a $20, you would think that discovering a lucrative idea is almost impossible, it turns out that there are hundreds of ideas that are yet to be discovered.

@jonathan_wilke built a tool called Outbid.lol that does only one thing. It’s a basic leaderboard that lists some tools or products and allows users to determine what position they maintain by how much they bid.

According to X, this was an experiment that exploded overnight, and the tool has already made $1,400, raking in 4.5k visitors in the first 12 hours.

Anyone can be at the top if they can outbid the current holder.

At the point of writing this, you need $303 to outbid the current tool at the number one position.

The tool has a live analytic visible at https://app.vemetric.com/public/outbid.lol?t=24hrs

As a niche site builder, there are 2 takeaways for me:

1. As long as there are humans, and new humans are being born every day, there are new ideas to make money from. Even with AI, it is not all gone. Interestingly, one of the tools listed on the page is @levelsio X account. An account that has close to a million followers still paid $23 to be listed on this tool andhe has so far gotten 25 clicks.

This is a different way of marketing, and marketing will also remain a problem people are looking to solve.

I am not in the camp of those who build and market and hope people like it; I go the data route. Rigorously do keyword research to find what people are looking for. Either way, this proves there are new solutions that could be created.

2. If $300+ is not beyond your budget, this is an opportunity for you to get visibility for your website or tool. Especially if you have one that requires a subscription or membership, it might not be a good fit for a site monetized by display Ads only.

In addition to this, you also get a backlink. Yes, the site currently has a DR0 with one backlink from https://supastarter.dev/ but it has the potential to get more backlinks in a few weeks.

There is hope for us all in the niche site space.

Keep building, never give up.
